A step, stamp and stomp are similar tap dance terms that have different meaning. Tap expert, Kaleena Miller, explains the difference between the three similar terms.
Steps are a weight shift that happen on the balls of your feet. A step usually comes in the beginning of a sequence and looks as if you are just walking on you tippy toes. A stomp is when your full foot pops off the ground. This move should not be weight bearing and should be one sound. A stamp is weight bearing and is your whole foot. It is similar to a stomp, but you leave your foot on the ground.
